Kentitrix Speaks ...

Travellers of the Thread, Mythstitchers, All Hail.

 You are welcome!

You, who seek not by road nor river, air nor ocean, but by the threads which bind the multiverse together.

L

I have been known by many names, names sung above cradles, whispered in riddles, carved on runes and stitched in heraldic splendour.  Some of my faces are here ...

I have witnessed great deeds. I have sat at the hearthstones of the mighty and crouched among nettles as a spindle-maid, laughing with the poor. You may call me Kentitrix: it is a good name, built of many tongues.

You may have heard of me as the Leal Maiden, silver needle flashing beneath moonlight, teasing the Hero toward glory … or ruin.  Or, perhaps, nursing a precious child. Am I Virgin, Temptress or Guardian?  I am none of these ... or, perhaps, all of them.  All I will say is this:

I am she who came before Chronos began counting, before fate was anchored.  And when both time and destiny are forgotten, my tales will be remembered.

Long ago, before time wore boots, I saw the first stars stitched into the Heavens, I hummed the first songs into being, to tally stitches as sewers sewed.  For those who have ears to hear, you may catch the cadence of the music, words indistinct, echoed and altered across millennia. I will lead you and show you stories through the magic of wild things, butterflies, birds, beasts and whispering leaves.

I do not claim truth.  For that you must ask Verity, my dull, dreary sister.  I only promise the strange, curious connections between what we think we know, what we believe, and the half-memories of past ages.  I offer you a web of wonders, as bright as silk, as binding as the work of Arachne …

Come now, I shall go on ahead and await you. Look deep into yourself and see the threads of your spirit as they stretch out into time and space.  I shall call to you, so watch carefully … then take a leap along the thread which trembles at my touch.
